We Also Use Follow In Steps

Our fundamental belief is that Follow In Steps must be useful to ourselves before it can be useful to anybody else. We need to feel what our users feel, so we can better help them.

Checking Steps

One of the reasons we are excited about Follow In Steps is because we are creating it for ourselves first and opening it up for others when we feel we got something right. From the technical point of view, attempting to create a technology that we do not use ourselves is incredibly hard. It puts ourselves at a heavy disadvantage because of the disconnection with our users. We don’t want it happening with Follow In Steps at all. We want to feel your joy, but in case of pain we will act as fast as we can to make it joyful again.

We use Follow In Steps in a daily basis for a variety of activities, but we never thought that such a simple idea could flourish in so many ways. We noticed that some steps are habit-forming, others react to events, and prevent mistakes from happening.

Keeping Kids Intellectually Active

An example of habit-forming steps are the ones we created to keep our kids busy during the COVID-19 pandemic. We were instructed by health officials to stay at home as much as we could. The nature of our day jobs allowed us to switch to work remotely, but nothing could have prepared us to stay with kids in a limited space for such a long time.

We had to find ways to fill in their schedule with intellectually fulfilling activities, compensating the time out of school. So, we used Follow In Steps to assign 10 steps to them in a daily basis in exchange to the right to watch TV and play video games.

Repetitive Routines At Home and Work

We also use Follow In Steps to coordinate our weekly routine, keeping home-made recipes, and procedures to clean the house, but the most interesting application is the use of the app to manage itself. Everything that is repetitive and doesn’t change often is represented by steps, except the creative work.

We believe the creative process to design and develop the app is unstructured, but we recognize that it is surrounded by repetitive preparations and wrapping steps. Looking from the top, a single indivisible step, free of rules, represents the creative work. Then other procedural steps take care of functional testing, bug reporting, and user support. The immediate benefit is that we don’t need to memorize everything and when it’s time to follow steps we don’t miss a single detail.

Soon, You Will Use It Too

All these steps are currently restricted to family and co-workers, but we are very close to the point where you will also follow steps like we do. As a matter of fact, a few hundred invited users are following experimental steps to enhance their career, which is one of many envisioned applications in our product development plan.
